What happens at the fundraiser end-date

At the fundraiser’s end date, mostly nothing happens.

The fundraiser remains accessible and can still receive donations.

An email is sent to the fundraiser on the end date to mark the close of the fundraising period. We don’t want fundraisers (or you) to stress about donations getting lost, so we keep the fundraiser open. Only when the fundraiser (or you) actively ends the page will it close for new donations and be hidden from index pages.

The end date mainly serves as a milestone to help supporters centre their efforts.

Note that in-memory fundraisers/tribute funds do not have an end date. In these cases, we send an email a few days after the funeral, or a few weeks after creation if the page was set up after the funeral, instead of an end date email.

Birthday and anniversary fundraisers also don’t have an explicit end date. Instead, the date of the celebration or birthday is used to mark their end.

It also affects when user data is deleted in line with our retention policy.
